Like it needs to be moved.

Here at the county courthouse at the square many people gathered this morning to rally for this confederate statue to be moved.

Different speakers voiced their opinions on the statue and how it makes them feel.

Local business owner john currence was one of the speakers today, he like many others want the statue moved to make the city more inviting for everyone.

Jerry townsend a us air force veteran and a lafayette county resident, he said this country is filled with many different races and he wants everyone to feel equal.

"we are one in the spirit of what america is supposed to be, we don't always live up to that but that has always been the asparation" townsend reminded ralliers of the history of the confederate statue.

"we have some bad things in our history, but we have some good things in our history as well."

Jamie barnett is retired from the us navy and he wants everyone that walks through the gates of the courthouse to feel welcomed.

He said that cannont be done with the statue still at the square.

"if you wanted to enter the courts of justice of lafayette county then and now you must enter under the shadow of the symbol of war for white supremecy."

Organizers will continue to hold rallies and marches to get the attention of city and county leaders.
