Halloween is a couple of weeks away and it may look a little different this year due to the coronavirus.

Action news now rpeorter dani masten joins us live in chicoã dani, is trick or treating still possible this year?

Debbie, yes, it is, but there are some safety measures that people need to be taking.

Today- i spoke with public information officer for shasta county health and human services kerri schutte who tells me exactly what people need to be doing for halloween this year.

For starters, she reccommends trick or treaters and people passing out candy be tested for covid-19 and says that trick or treaters need to stay socially distanced, wear a mask, and wash hands or sanitize after ringing doorbells.

She also shares some creative ways to stay safe.

"you know, leave little bags out closer to the driveway so kids can just grab them when they walk by or when kids are trick or treating they can put their bag or bucket by the door ring the doorbell then back up six feet and wave to the people that answer the door."

Schutte also said that pre- packaged candy is always a good idea, as well as having the people passing out candy use tongs to help remove that person to person contact.

And of course, she reccomends that people should really avoid having large gatherings as this is one of the easiest ways to spread covid-19.
