Election day.

There's a good chance you, or someone you know has been impacted by breast cancer.

As part of "breast cancer awareness month"... one wabash valley organization is bringing attention to the help they can provide women fighting the disease.

News 10's dominic miranda explains.

[take pkg incue: the number one outcue: with breast cancer duration:1:44] pkg do} the number one thing to increase a woman's survival rate with breast cancer is early detection.

The wabash valley breast cancer survivors group's goal is to help women in our community do just that.

I spoke with a member of the group on wednesday who told me all about their mission to empower women during their fight with breast cancer.

The wabash valley breast cancer survivors organization strives to decrease the impact of breast cancer and increase breast cancer awareness in the wabash valley.

They do this by raising funds to pay for mammorgrams for women who are under insured or not insured at all.

Nina storey is a two time breast cancer survivor.

She says paying it forward means the world to her.

"i know how fortunate i am so it's really important, i think as a survivor and for me, to pay it forward.

I love the work of helping people that may not have the funding to get the things that i was able to receive."

Storey says she's had friends and family who unfortunately didn't win their fight with breast cancer..... helping women know they aren't alone and catch breast cancer early is even more vital.

"the last thing you need to worry about when you're sick is money, or not being able to get treatment that you need, or the medication that you need.

So being able to help folks in this way means everything."

Do} storey says worrying about covid-19 sometimes causes neglect of other aspects of your health.

She says make sure you continue self exams for breast cancer and if you need assistance getting a mammogram...be sure to contact them that information is on our website, w-t-h-i-t-v dot com.

Back to you.
