Lyssa Talks with Goodwill about their rise program and how people can attend he event and apply for new jobs
C1 3 lyssa-host: hey, guys.
We are here at goodwill industries, right here on new circle road for our hometown tours.
And i'm here with rachel hoover.
She is the director of career services right here at goodwill.
Thank you so much for being with us.
Rachel hoover: yeah.
Thanks for dropping over.
Lyssa-host: well, let's talk about, i mean, we've been shopping, we're looking at halloween costumes and everything, but there's a lot that's going on with goodwill.
One of which is the rise program.
Let's talk about this program.
Rachel hoover: yeah.
So the rise program is actually a program that's designed for people who are reentering, who've been justice involved, or maybe they have had substance use disorder issues in the past.
It's a program that is really a two week long reentry program to bring together a lot of community resources to help and really give those people the best start forward that they can get.
Lyssa-host: well, and that leads me to my next question.
Why is this type of a program so important for those folks out in the community right now?
Rachel hoover: yeah.
So this type of program really helps.
A lot of us don't understand what it's like to be reentering after a period.
There are a lot of barriers in their way.
It could be transportation.
It could be the fact that they don't have an id anymore.programs like this really help people pull it all together in terms of mental and physical health and other aspects of employment and education, and really help them get a step up in exactly exactly where they should be.
Lyssa-host: exactly.and this fits so well with your all's mission as well.
Let's talk about the mission itself.
Rachel hoover: yeah.
So the mission at goodwill is really to help give people a step up and bring them along, so to speak.
So we want people to... we want to basically level the playing field for people, so that people who need employment are able to get and retain employment.
Lyssa-host: absolutely.
Now, for folks that are interested in employment with goodwill, where do they need to go for information?
Rachel hoover: yeah.
So they can join us a tour office here on new circle road.
And we can help them walk through the process.
There are lots of great benefits to being
