Marvin how are things different this year and how can people help?
Good morning, the red kettle kick off is normally held at the tippecanoe mall but of course due to covid-19, provisions were made.
This friday at 2 p-m the salvation army will hold a virtual event that will explain how you can get involved this year.
As many of you may know the red kettle campaign is an effort that's aimed at helping filies during the holiday season.
The salvation army in greater lafayette is calling it a christmas kick-off to highlight all the salvation army has to offer during the holiday season.
Lieutenant rachel johnson says the salvation army will need the community's help this season to get through the holidays.
"we are ready and excited to serve whoever needs the salvation army this year and we are anticipating a lot more people than who have not normally needed the salvation army before."
Special guest at the event include both mayor dennis and mayor roswarski as well as greater lafayette united way ceo michael budd.
Lieutenant rachel johnson says people should keep an eye out on greater lafayette's salvation army facebook page for updates.
The organization is also encouraging people to safely donate from home.
