Concerns About Students Bringing Coronavirus Home for Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving approaching, there are concerns that college students around the country could unknowingly bring the coronavirus home to their families and communities.

Public schools made the decision to go virtual for the rest of the semester but even with students back at home, the school district is working hard to help students get fed with a big giveback this morning to make sure student families have a good meal for thanksgiving.

Good morning tommy and lauren.

We were here just a few months ago when community members were dropping off school supplies for low-income students and now we're back and while the bus is still here, it's going to be dressed as a turkey here shortly.

And from 7 a.m.

To 5 p.m.

Today, donations can be dropped off here at the walmart on frederica street or the one on kentucky fifty four or the kroger on frederica street.

The family resource and youth service centers from daviess county public schools ask community members for their help to make sure that struggling families do not go hungry at thanksgiving this year as it's been a tough time for many families, with parents losing jobs or furloughed.

And to give an early holiday gift this year, school officials ask that donations of non-perishable food items be dropped off inside of the turkey-dressed school buses.

And it's not just a hot meal some families need.

With money short, hygiene items like hairbrushes, toothbrushes, shampoo and soap are also welcome as donations.

The foundation for daviess county public schools is also partnering with kentucky legend to help giveback two thousand pounds of ham -- the centerpiece of a thanksgiving basket handed out to families.

And if there are any leftover items -- they will also be spread among daviess county families in need around christmas time as well.
