Retail stores aren't the only busy parking lots after thanksgiving.
??
Some clinics are seeing an increase in covid-19 testing.??
Courtney ann jackson explains.
??
Doctors tell me busy clinics today are a symptom of the increased community spread we've seen statewide this month---not so much thanksgiving.
But they're holding their breath for what may be to come.
"really showing a lot of community transmission right now.
And the perfect storm for transmission is intermingling and mixing of households and age groups which perfectly describes what happens at the holidays.
I'm very concerned that we're going to have over the next few weeks, an increased number of cases."
While the folks getting tested friday wouldn't have been the ones to catch the virus at thanksgiving---they could've spread it.
"if someone has symptoms today and proves to have covid-19 and yesterday they were at grandmas or grandpas or somebody's gathering, then they were contagious yesterday.
So, wherever they were yesterday, if they are symptomatic today they are symptomatic today and test positive then yesterday they were positive."
For clinics like trustcare---they anticipated the increased demand for tests after having been closed for the holiday.
But they've been seeing that increase for the last month.
"we have made some increases in staffing and try to make sure that we've got enough people but regardless it's very exhausting on our clinical staff to have to work at the level that they are right now."
Trustcare opened a covid-only testing site and now they're looking to expand that model as they anticipate the demand increasing even more in the coming weeks.
"we can get them in and out a lot quicker with going to that clinic and we're looking at potentially adding some more temporary spots like that just to try to help out and basically reduce the pressure on our urgent care clinics."

The weather was a bit dreary.
But it didn't discourage folks from heading downtown to take advantage of small business saturday which was started by american express to encourage people to get out and support their small businesses in their community.
Barbara fleishhacker owns the main attraction emporium and coffee bar.
Like other small business owners, she has had to cope with covid-19.
"and i have to say that it's been lighter than normal.
But the people that have come in have had a really good time and they're shopping.
It's just been kind of slow and sparse.
But one thing i do like is that we've had many customers today that don't live here anymore that remember this shop from their youth.
So it's been nice to see the second and third generations come through and enjoy their shopping.
And we're selling so you know business is a little brisk.
It's just not what it used to be."
There are a number of speciality shops in tupelo including woodworkings which makes customized furniture and accessories made locally.
Jennifer tenhet works at the store and also sells her own art here.
"small town business is very important for our area especially for this company.
This is a company that's run by family.
They let me work part time and have my artwork here.
But it has been especially important during this pandemic how our customers have been so good to either to either do curbside or online sales.
Things are starting to pick up with customers coming back in.
But we've had a really good day today and we just appreciate our customers."
Right now the street from wood workings house in the old rankin home, not one but three businesses, the farm house tupelo, annie sloan chalk paint, and noon fresh food fast.
"it's been good.
It's been steadyand a lot of great people have been in the store today.
We have local artists things.
We have unique gifts that you can find in the big box stores.
And they're still willing to support local businesses so that's a plus."
And what would small business saturday be without reeds department store, which has had to be flexible during the pandemic.
"we're trying to be as optimistic as we can.
We have a whole store full of great things.
We have great great lines that we're very excited about.
So trying to get it to where a customer even knows what we have in the store has been a challenge with some people just not wanting to go out and not wanting to shop due to certain precautions, but our store i think we're being a fexible and as smart as we can."

A day after saying he would accept the electoral college results, president trump is falsely setting a new bar for joe biden to enter the white house.??
We'll have that story after the break.

Intro a day after saying he would accept the electoral college results, president trump is falsely setting a new bar for joe biden to enter the white house.??
Even after a federal judge mr. trump appointed delivered a stinging rebuke of his latest legal challenge.??
Cbs's ben tracy is at the white house.
??
Pkg pkg: before hitting the golf course for the second day in a row...president trump was already teed off.
Bizarely declaring that joe biden can only enter the white house as president if he can prove that his ridiculous "80,000,000 votes" were not fraudulently or illegally obtained.
Twitter immediately flagged the tweet because there is no evidence of widespread fraud.
I'm the president of the united states.
Don't ever talk to the president that way.
During the president's combative thanksgiving news conference he again refused to concede...warning the electoral college not to certify mister biden the winner.
Well if they do, they made a mistake because this election was a fraud.
But today the president's campaign was hit with another stinging legal defeat in one of its last attempts to overturn biden's win in pennsylvania.
In a scathing ruling a trump appointed federal judge says "calling an election unfair does not make it so.
Charges require specific allegations and then proof.
We have neither here."
The campaign plans to appeal to the us supreme court even as the trump administration's transition to president elect biden is well underway.
Mister biden...who is spending the holiday weekend at his delaware beach house...is expected to receive his first presidential daily intelligence briefing monday.
Certainly i will.
Certainly i will.
And you know that.
While president trump says he will leave the white house on january 20th if he isnt declared the winner...he won't say if he will attend mister biden's inauguration.
I mean i know the answer, i'll be honest, i know the answer.
But i just don't want to say it yet.
