Show open show open show open show open show open show open as the cases increase---it pushes healthcare workers into yet another month of intense care for covid-19 patients.
And we wanted to check in on how they're feeling.
Courtney ann jackson spoke with two nurses at the hospital in brookhaven.
Healthcare workers...you expect them to be there in your time of need.
And they've been on the front lines of this covid-19 pandemic for more than 200 days now.
"every room that you walk in, you kind of have that that they may have the virus and you're always a little hesitant.
You worry about going home.
You worry about being around your wife and kids and it's just a constant kind of stressor i guess you would say."
Nick smith is the er manager at king's daughters medical center in brookhaven.
He says he feels fortunate to have had the support from the hospital---never reaching a critical low on ppe when he was hearing about it across the country.
But there's another side to being in a small town.
"most of the people that come here, we know 'em.
So that definitely,,,it just makes you recognize that this virus, there's no lines it won't cross.
It affects everybody" they opened a covid testing site behind the hospital in an attempt to free up space from folks who may otherwise come to the er seeking a test.
Lisa shann is managing that operation.
"honestly it's taking it's toll.
It's been a long journey since march 23 when we opened the site."
They went from test around 20 people each day to now averaging around 80.
And then find themselves breaking the news of test results to patients.
"so a lot of people are either very very sensitive to it and very scared still of it and then i've got a lot of people that really are not bothered by the virus."
Even when she's not here--- shann gets calls from community members who are aware she's in the know.
So, it's all covid---al the time.
Still... "i signed up to be a nurse because i absolutely enjoy and love working with people and being there for them when i can and especially at a time like this, this gives me that reassurance that i'm doing what i'm supposed to be doing and that i was blessed to do."

Wcbi's stephen pimpo was at the scene earlier today and has more on the story.
Pkg this was the scene thursday afternoon as a gunshot victim was flown to university of mississippi medical center in critical condition after a shooting at this columbus home.
"we had a call come in to 911 about a subject being shot and our deputies responded to the scene and found one victim that had been shot and he has been air-lifted to jackson."
When wcbi arrived...the front of the house had police tape around it and deputies and members of the lowndes county narcotics division were speaking with several different people in the front yard.
"we just had everyone that was available respond to the scene when we got the call so they showed up to help secure the scene and help work the crime scene here."
Lowndes county sheriff eddie hawkins says no one else was hurt but did say that there were multiple people inside the two- story house when deputies responded to the scene.
"there were other people here at the residence at the time and we're trying to figure out who all was here and what their involvement was."
"we're trying to determine if they were witnesses to the crime itself or they arrived after the shooting."
Tag investigators did search the backyard of the home where the shooting happened and also neighboring yards.

Intro an area community college is offering a 'back to normal" or traditional schedule of in person classes schedule of in person classes for next spring.
Wcbi's allie martin has more from northeast mississippi community college.
Nemcc has offered a variety of learning formats this semester, including face to face, online , hybrid and zoom, but after hearing from students the decision has been made to offer more, in person classroom instruction.
"over eighty percent of our students indicated they really needed a face to face class situation."
Nemcc students callie stanley and arleigh johnson agree.
Both have been taking online classes and say there are some challenges.
"each student learns different and it's hard for students who have trouble with online classes."
"college algebra, i had that this semester and it was kind of difficult, was my first time ever having a math class online" nemcc president doctor ricky ford says strict safety protocols will be in place, as the college offers more in person classes next semester.
Social distancing guidelines will be in place inside classrooms, masks will be required for students and instructors, rooms will be disinfected after each class.
Contact tracing will take place whenever there is a positive case.
Those extra safety measures require funds that aren't in the budget.
Doctor ford says the federal cares act will provide some relief.
"all of the masks, disinfectants that deal with covid prevention and spread of disease is money provided by cares act and government provided for us, it helped us out."
Doctor ford says in person classroom instruction works best for students and instructors.
"we cannot shut down our institutions of higher learning, we must learn to navigate through this entire process and get some type of normalcy into our everyday life and our students life."
Standup wrap doctor ford hopes nemcc will be an example to other schools and show that face to face classroom instruction is possible, with the proper safety protocols.
In booneville, allie martin, wcbi news virtual, hybrid and zoom options will be available for students who aren't quite ready for in person instruction at nemcc.

Health talk with baptist is next.
Don't go anywhere.
Cash 3 lottery gfx goes here intro quitting smoking is hard and nicotine addiction comes with many health risks.
Tonight on health talk with baptist, dr. guarav dutta joins us for part three of the conversation.
Take a look.
No script billboard attached it is back and just in time for the holidays.
Season two of uncorked begins this evening with our host bobbie burgess.
Bobbie has a slate of special guests scheduled.
She beings tonight with ideas for thanksgiving.
Here's uncorked.
Bobbie burgess: welcome back everyone to uncorked.
My name's bobbie, i'm your host, and today i'm with mark warren from pilar.
He's the director of operations and an advanced sommelier way.
Bobbie burgess: so mark, today, we'll be talking about thanksgiving wines, and what have you brought for us today?
Mark warren : all right.
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because we get to eat and drink all day long, and that's my favorite time.
We've bought a couple of things.
One to start with, and then one to finish with.
Mark warren : people always want to know what pairs well with turkey?
So to me, pinot noir is an easy pairing for that, so that's where we started.
We have the hirsch vineyards bohan dillon pinot noir 2018 from the sonoma coast.
That was where we're going to start with today.
Bobbie burgess: and this wine is actually coming out around thanksgiving time.
So it's the perfect bottle to go out and try because it's going to be brand new on the market.
Mark warren : really pretty pinot noir, red fruit dominant, obviously shows a little bit of oak influence with that sweet vanilla and the spices that you get there.
Really easy pairing for turkey or any other bird you want to put it with, whether it's quail or anything.
Bobbie burgess: oh, absolutely, and this high acid in there, it's going to go really well with green bean casserole, any of those other dishes that might be a little bit heavier that you need something to cut through.
Mark warren : it's a producer i've been in love with for a long time.
Tasting their wines, i knew they were just a little bit different and i wanted to explore that.
So the family, they worked in burgundy.
The father was an importer with clothing based in burgundy, so that's where they built the reference point.
They moved back to california.
The property is in cazadero, which is just maybe three miles from the ocean.
So that's where the cool influence is.
Bobbie burgess: it's a beautiful wine.
You will not be displeased if you pick this bottle up.
And so what's the next one we have?
Mark warren : all right, we're going to go all the way to spain for something we can drink more than maybe one or two bottles of.
This is the evodia grenache.
It's from calatayud.
It's in northeastern spain, just south of rioja in that region.
Old vine resource, the vines in this that made this wine are between 40 and 100 years old.
There's no wood influence here.
It's more about just ripe fruit, good tannins and firm acidity.
Bobbie burgess: yes.
If you want a crowd-pleasing wine, this is going to do the job.
It's got a lot of fruit.
And for those of you in mississippi, if you've gone to the store and picked a grenache, this is going to be the same variety.
It's just going to come from spain, which is actually where garnacha and grenache originated.
This is a great wine.
It's delicious.
Mark warren : i love the flavor profile.
The fruit, you have fun things like pomegranate and cranberry notes, which pairs perfectly with thanksgiving food, and also a little bit of white pepper.
So i want this with dressing.
It'll be so delicious, and cranberry.
Bobbie burgess: i almost put my glass down, but then i need another sip.
Mark warren : i know.
Bobbie burgess: this is delicious.
So you can find this one at scotty's?
Mark warren : yes.
Bobbie burgess: and bulldog package?
Mark warren : yes.
Bobbie burgess: awesome.
Mark warren : i'm sure you'll find those there.
Yep.
Bobbie burgess: well, thank so much for being with us today and we'll see y'all next week.
Cheers.
Mark warren : cheers.
