I am outside of starkville church of god... one of the 25 food pantries united way has partnered with to feed people in north central mississippi.

United way of north mississippi is finishing up its big push to distribute donated food items to food pantries in choctaw, oktibbeha, webster, and winston counties.

Candy crecink is the director of community engagement at united way and she said this effort is to get families through the holiday season.

Candy crecink - director of community engagement: "our good neighbors that need a little bit of help and support, they can go to their local community pantry program and there's gonna be definitely supplies there."

So far, the organization got over 10,000 nonperishable food items... but crecink said there's still a need for more.

Candy crecink - director of community engagement: "our food pantries and programs have indicated they are still on an upsurge increase in people coming in need, new ones every week."

Although members of the community still need help, crecink counld not help but be proud of the communities in north central mississippi.

Candy crecink - director of community engagement: "this is such a true reminder of blessed we are in the communities we are, with people saying we know our neighbors need us and we are here to support."

Now the event officially ends tomorrow... but crecink said they will take any nonperishable food items anytime and anywhere.
