Schools, Parents Back Lawsuit Filed Against Gov. Beshear's COVID-19 Order

Nine religious schools and over 1,000 Kentucky parents are backing a lawsuit filed by Attorney General Daniel Cameron against Gov.

Beshear's latest COVID-19 Executive Order, calling it a violation of constitutional rights.

Has been looking at the local impact of this legal challenge.

Heritage christian school in owensboro kentucky is one 9 religious affiliated schools in the bluegrass to join attorney general cameron lawsuit against the governor.

On friday, attorney general cameron filed a lawsuit in federal court against governor beshear asking the court to issue a statewide temporary restraining order against the governors order banning in- person instruction at religious schools.

The attorney argues that the banning on in- person learning for religious schools is against the first amendment and the commonwealths religious freedom and restoration act.

And some heritage christian parents are in complete agreement with the attorney generals lawsuit.?i believe that governor beshear has overstepped.

He does not have the right to do these restrictions.

He does not have the right to do this, and we have freedom to assemble from the first amendment and freedoms of religion, so he does not have any ability, whatsoever, to impose his will over a religious institution?

So far, heritage christian is the only school in our tri-state to support the lawsuit but more than 1,000 parents have joined in, in support of the lawsuit, just 72 hours after it was filed cameron said "the ability to provide and receive a private religious education is a core part of the freedoms protected by the first amendment and that "religiously affiliated schools that follow recommended social-distancing guidelines should be allowed to remain open."

A hearing in the case took place starting at 1:00 pm today, but it isn expected to conclude until later tonight, but wel give you more information on this developing story as we get it.
