Opportunity Shop in need of donations and sponsors
The village.
This year due to covid, the shop is closed... but some of their important programs, such as their food pantry are continuing.
News channel 2's brent kearney spoke to one of the volunteers about their christmas angel program and how the shop is in need of donations.
The opportunity shop in canastota may be closed now do to covid, but their mission in helping the community continues.

None "the program i'm doing right now is the christmas angel program.
Familes sign up.
Our sponsors give them pants, a shirt, pack of underwear, pack of socks a toy, pajamas, hat andmittens."
A and her volunteers hoped to help around 150 children living in the village who's families have signed up forthe t month, members of the community have chosen to sponsor a child or a family, providing them with a toy and clothing this holiday season.
And barbara says she only needs 30 more sponsors to reach her goal.
"i've had some very interesting calls this weekend because of my facebook page.
I keep updating them and letting them know it really helps and the needy really need us this year.
It means alot to the families.
Some its harder to sign up than others because its hard to ask for help.
I make them feel comfortable and say someday you may be able to pay it back."
Families will pick up their gifts on december 10th.
But barbara says she will also try to help people that come in that did not sign up "i do get the last minute people that come in.
And if they live in the village and they need help i still help them even though its after the time.
I don't let anyone walk away without something."
