Arning.

They are trying to get oregon governor kate brown to re-evaluate the metrics so students can go back to school.

The jackson county board of commissioners held a meeting today to discuss the issue.

Newswatch 12's adam schumes joins us live with an update.

Last week the the school districts board of directors passed a resolution asking governor brown brown to do just that.

As a parent jackson county commissioner rick dyer understands what students are growing through "i'm also a coach and i have a lot of interactions with kids who aren't doing as well who don't respond as well to the online process and who are starting to check out a little bit not having in person learning is taking a toll on students across the state "it maybe even more widespread than we even may know about failing grades have risen in the state kids are not gaining the basic proficiencies that are going to allow them to be successful = so that's why he and rest of the commissioners are joining forces with the msd to urge governor brown to re-evaluate the metrics so students can go back to school.

"it's reiterating the fact that overall the data is showing that schools are not super spreaders.

In fact, they're not effectively, uh, you know, transfers, uh, areas of the virus and that kids are actually safer in school than just about anywhere" not just school buts businesses as well "these measures aren't as effective a reducing the spread and the actual negative consequence exceed what potential risk reduction there is.

It's a plan that dyer hopes will happen with this ever growing pandemic "kids are suffering without this in-person learning that those metrics should be also re assessed and kids should be back in school the jackson county board of commissioners agreed to send a letter to governor brown regarding to re-evaluating the metrics so businesses can open again.
