Lane county public health gave the district the green light to vaccinate school nurses and health care staff.
That covers about 18 employees.
And they could start getting their first dose -- as early as next week.
Now this doesn't include teachers.
They'll have to wait until the next phase 1b.
And there's no timeline yet on when exactly that will happen.
But superintendent cydney vandercar says there's been an overwhelming response from teachers who say -- they don't want to go back to school unless they get the vaccine.
The only words that ive recieved via email is that we want the vaccine before we go back the sooner you can get kids back in buildings the stronger our hand will be in helping you and obviously the key in that is obviously vaccinating the teachers stitch 4j spokesperson kerry delf says -- eligible staff will be notified how to schedule their vaccination when it becomes available.
But -- this is all dependant on when they get the shipment which could be early next week.
On tuesday governor brown announced that educators will be considered essential workers and be immunizied in the next phase of the rollout -- which is phase 1b.
As far as how many people have recieved the first dose of the vaccine here in lane county -- 5 thousand three hundred and nineteen.
I spoke with senior public health officer doctor patrick luedtke about the slow rollout across the state including here at home.
Ill break down what he says is behind this -- on kezi 9 news
