The Left Front has called for a 12-hour bandh in West Bengal on Friday.
Bandh has been announced after CPI(M) workers were allegedly beaten up during a march to Nabanna in Kolkata.
Left party workers blocked roads and railway tracks to register their protest.
Railway tracks were blocked at Kanchrapara railway station in North 24 Parganas.
Meanwhile, the streets of Siliguri remained deserted in support of the bandh called by the Left front.
Bandh will remain effective from 6 am in the morning to 6 pm in the evening.
The bandh, however, did not affect the public transport across the state.
TMC-led Bengal govt has mandated presence of all state govt employees in offices.
