Nat pop many people from local naacp branches all over the u.s. are starting conversations on what they say is racial injustice happening within the chamber walls.

The topic stems from an incident between lawmakers on february 18th.

Members of the legislative black caucus claim that as they were speaking against a bill, they were booed and shut down by other members of the house.

"it was shocking to see our members behave like that."

Representative robin shackleford was present that day.

She says disagreement with the bill wasn't the issue.

"there was confrontation that pursued in the hallway between one of our members and one of their members."

Representative vernon smith is a member of the legislative black caucus.

He says a member of the house followed him to the bathroom and continued to verbally provoke the matter.

"the bullying didn't bother me because when you have a message you know that's not going to be well received by all parties so the bullying didn't bother me.

What bothered me was the effort to try and shut me up."

Naacp leaders says the actions on february 18th have gone unpunished.

That's the reason they say they are facing injustice.

It's also the reason the organization is demanding the entire general assembly comply with implicit bias training.

"we are trying to pave the way for the future of our young people.

If we deal with some of the issues today then it will not be their issues tomorrow."

The naacp is also demanding that the speaker of the house and sergeant at arms control the action of their members.

"at one point i went up to the speaker and said we need to gain control of this chamber which it didn't happen.

It just de-escalated and got worse."

At the indiana statehouse, mb news 18 today's conversations came with a solution.

The n-a-a-c-p met with the speaker of the house todd huston.

He says he is working on a plan to require the entire general assembly participate in implicit bias training.
