Members of the NAACP were in Indianapolis on Tuesday for their annual Legislative Day.

Today was the n-double-a - c - p's annual "legislative day".

It's when members meet at the indiana statehouse to discuss current bills and issues with state lawmakers.

News 10's dominic miranda was in indianapolis this morning he explains what the focus was of this year's legislative day.

Many members from the naacp from all across indiana spoke at the indiana statehouse on tuesday morning.

This of course is all a part of their annual legislative day.

"we are here today because first and foremost, it is our right.

It is our obligation and it is our responsibility.

This is the people's house and we are the people."

Naacp legislative day is an annual event in which members all across the state of indiana use to speak with state legislators about current bills.... and simply to make their voices heard.

President of the indiana state conference of the naacp barbara bolling-williams outlined a call to action.

As we've told you... this particular legislative day focused on the poor treatment of 3 representatives in the indiana legislature.

Bolling williams says civility must be restored in the house chamber.... and that this is non-negotiable.

She outlined that the naacp also demands that the entire general assembly should undergo implicit bias training.

Numerous members and friends of the naacp spoke on tuesday about the goal of legislative day "it is very clear that systemic oppression and structural racism exist.

So it is even more clear that we must continue to diligently address these issues and try to dismantle them at their core."

"we are facing injustice and we are facing injustice clearly, and united, and jointly.

We will not go back to 1921."

This is a call to action.
