More people retiring during the Pandemic

According to AARP, nearly three million older workers would still be working right now if the Pandemic didn't happen.

Coming new for you on daybreak.

While the pandemic has forced millions of americans out of a job... it's also resulted in workers retiring earlier than anticipated.

Kimt news 3's madelyne watkins joins us live to tell us about what retired life looks like during the pandemic.

Madelyne, good morning./// brooke and tyler.

I think most people look forward to the day they finally get to retire.

For some though... it came unexpectedly and wasn't necessarily a happy experience.

And with places like 125 live in rochester closed for a brief time... it made things pretty difficult.

125 live is known to be a place for older adults to work out at or socialize with others... but that wasn't an option at the beginning of the pandemic.

And working a job wasn't either.

A survey conducted by the national institute on retirement security in february found nearly 2 million americans left the labor force for good this past year.

This leaves many people relying on social security.

The average monthly payment for retired workers is 15 hundred dollars... that's only if they claimed their benefits when they reached the full retirement age of 67.

Retiree alvin gorski tells me focusing on hobbies around the house made the pandemic a little more "for me, it wasn't that trying because i have hobbies.

Like wood working out in the garage and doing puzzles and stuff like that."

The national institute on retirement security also reports that because of the pandemic... nearly 67% of americans are actually doing the opposite and plan to retire later than originally planned.

Either way... it's important workers look at their retirement plan ?

"(now.

Live in rochester.
