Phase two of the lake tobosofkee improvements is beginning.
41nbc's peyton lewis went to the lake for a special ground breaking ceremony to learn more about the newest upgrades.
*nat pop of shovels digging and people cheering* "lake tobosofkee has always been my love, i mean since back when i was 18 years old and it took so many years, it took over 20 years to get to where we are today."
A team of macon-bibb leaders and crews broke ground at lake tobosofkee on wednesday to kick off the second phase of improvements to the area.
"it's just gonna be an amazing place to come see."
Phase two which includes four new pickleball courts that county leaders got to help break ground on.
Lake tobosofkee director donald bracewell says he's excited for everyone to come play some pickleball.
"you play it with paddles and a waffle ball but it's a great event, everybody is starting to play it in middle georgia and we just had to have it at lake tobosofkee."
The county has been planning lake improvements for years, and finally got the ball rolling with phased projects in february.
Phase 1 was completed in early march and included new gatehouses, ranger stations, restrooms and the demolition of 5 unsafe structures.
*standup* commissioners say lake tobosofkee is usually a destination for young families during the summer or spring break but with the new projects they're accomplishing they're hoping to make the lake fun for everyone.
Former macon-bibb commissioner joe allen says the second phase of improvements also includes the completion of the sandy beach pavillion, something he says older visitors can enjoy.
"and we got it the way i really wanted it done have it where the senior citizens and elderly can go inside and the others can stay outside if they want to."
Commissioner raymond wilder, says he hopes the new improvements will entice more than just residents in the near future.
"there's just so much going on out here we just gotta keep plugging this place and it''s really kind of come back alive the past few years and it's just an amazing place."
