Nursing homes have been waiting for: new york state has relaxed visitation guidelines.

But before the doors swing open, there is work to be done.

Newschannel 2's joleen ferris reports.

New york state has relaxed nursing home visitation guidelines.

The biggest change?

:10 "the big change with the guidelines is, it's allowing us to visit even under the definition of an outbreak" in other words, a positive case among a resident or staff doesn't automatically reset the clock for two weeks .

None .

None :36 'if there's a positive staff person, we just have to stop visits for a few days until the next cycle of our weekly...all of our residents get tested weekly.

Once they're all negative, then we can resume again.

:54 "rather than two weeks, four week time frames, we're talking days, possibly" but for most, this doesn't mean the doors swing open today.

Masonic care community, in utica, is telling families on their website that they anticipate opening for in person visitation next week, and will notify families when they can schedule visits with their loved ones.

Sitrin healthcare, in new hartford, says work must be done first; instructional signs must be made and printed.

Their goal is to open late next week, ona o lar than tues.
