Breken?

Senate bill 152 is only for lauderdale county and it gives municipalities more guidelines and options on how to handle protests.

One thing in the bill says that cities can charge organizations who want to protest fees for police officers and closing streets, cities can also deny these applications.

Florence activist camille bennett said her group has been protesting weekly to have this confederate monument removed and she feels this bill was made to deter people from protesting by adding more hoops to jump through.

It tries to specify how many people can come.

It makes us pay fees for police where we can go.

There are so many ways they are restricting our first amendment rights in so many ways i think it's unconstitutiona l.

Senator tim melson introduced the bill and he said this clears up confusion on what cities can and cannot to when it comes to protests.

The bill made it past the senate and now it heads to the house.

Bennett told me if this bill does become law they plan to legally challenge it.
