1 injured after West Point shooting

A bystander was shot after a fight broke out between two men at a West Point restaurant, police said.

A weekend shooting in west point sent one woman to the hospital.

Wtva's broinson woodruff is joining us now live from west point to tell us how she's doing now.

I'm outside jalyn's bar and grill where officers said the shooting happened this past sunday morning just before one a-m.

"yeah, it's somewhat unusual."

Early sunday morning, someone called police officers to jalyn's bar and grill on south division street.

When they got there, cook explained that officers discovered a fight, which led to a shooting.

Standup: the chief said it happened in the back parking lot here.

He said two men got into a scuffle.

The fight continued, and a shot rang out and hit one woman in the hand.

Cook said the woman was a bystander who was not involved.

She went to the north mississippi medical center where staff treated her for her injuries, and later released her.

Now, the challenge is finding who did it, and why.

"there's always a motive."

We tried to talk to someone in jaylyn's about what happened that night, but the restaurant was closed when we visited.

It doesn't open until later in the afternoon.

Chief cook said officers are ready to help for incidents like this with one goal in mind: keeping the public safe.

"over the last several months, we've had some incidents where a shooting has taken place, which is uncommon for this area."
