This is the first time that city leaders in both Chico and Paradise have met to discuss this new project on the ridge.
Active and ongoing.
New tonightÃcity leaders continue planning on bringing a sewer system to paradise.
Action news now reporter carmela karcher met with community members following the first meeting of the paradise sewer committee.
That's right alan.
This is the first time that city leaders in both chico and paradise have met to discuss this new&big project on the ridge.
At 1pm today& the paradise sewer committee finally gathered to discuss the next steps on the sewer project.
The meeting was mainly focused on the enginering of the project.
But&as paradise mayor steve crowder told me&along with improving chico's water and sewer rates&paradise will help the city upgrade its current water plant.
Steve crowder/mayor of paradise: "they have got to modernize their older sewer system.
Well, this is something where we can help do that and it's going to help their capacity with that as well.
So, like i said, it's kind of a win-win."
More importantly& crowder said that this sewer pipeline will go directly from paradise to chico.
Meaning&the pipeline will not connect to other nearby areas.
Steve crowder: "we own the pipeline.
The only waste that will go into that pipeline is from our sewer district to their treatment plant.
There is no stops in between that it's going to pick up.
That's our pipeline."
So&the town's water waste will run nearly 25 miles from around pentz road directly to& carmela karcher: "here at chico's water pollution control plant.
This is something that many businesses on the ridge have been looking forward to."
Within the next four to five years&every commercial business along the main roads& including some residential lots&will all be running on sewer.
Although this is a heafty&and nearly 200 million dollar project& businesses and city leaders alike are happy to finally see some movement on this long- awaited sewer system.
Steve crowder: "this is probably one of the greatest days in paradise's history."
It sure is.

Behind me is the proposed project area map.
As you can see& the sewer service area will start somewhere in between pentz and clark&run all the way down skyway and clark&then cut across pearson road.
The environmental impact report is already underway and will hopefully be completed by next june.
The paradise sewer committee's next meeting will be held on may 10th.
