Leo Varadkar became the head of the Ireland government for the second time as part of a job-sharing deal made by the country’s centrist coalition government.
Varadkar replaced Micheál Martin as Taoiseach.
The 43-year-old Irish politician served as Prime Minister between 2017 and 2020.
He is the country’s youngest-ever leader.
Notably, he is also first openly Gay Prime Minister of the once-staunchly Catholic country.
He became the country's youngest Taoiseach at the age of 38, becoming Ireland’s first biracial leader to serve in that capacity and also the first of Indian heritage.
