On December 8, health officials reported the identification of the COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1 in a 79-year-old woman from Kerala, who had tested positive in an RT-PCR test on November 18.
Although she experienced mild influenza-like symptoms, she had previously recovered from COVID-19.
Over 90% of current cases in India are categorised as mild, according to sources.
