A food pantry in West Point is adjusting due to the COVID-19 pandemic to help the West Point community.

Pandemic.

Im here at the homestead food food pantry in west point.

Employees distribute food every tuesday and thursday.

I spoke with the pantry president who says the need is growing but so is their ability to serve.

From the food pantry."

"we haven't had to struggle."

President of the homestead food pantry, jane scott, says since the start of the pandemic the west point community has been very generous with donations.

"between our grant and monetary donations we have today a brand new commercial freezer."

Lewise jackson handles applications for new and retrurning clients and she says donations are not the only thing growing.

"we do have neew clients, especially during the pandemic."

She says the donations are important because of the amount of people they currently serve.

"probably around 480 to 500 families, now that's not people that's families, that we have certified for our food pantry."

However because of health concerns, they distribute differently now.

They are requiring masks.

They have hand sanitizer for everyone when they enter the building.

And only two people are allowed in at one time.

Scott says each person receives food through the window and exits through the side door.

Jackson says althouh the process is different now the community is understanding.

"i have someone tell me almost every week they don't know what they would do if they did not have this food from the food pantry."

Jackson said you folks can come in monday from 9 am to 10 am to fill out an application.

She said you will need a drivers license and you will need to list you yearly income on the application.
