Brooke schwieters spoke with election officials here at south carolina about why counting every single ballot can't be done in the popular in one day.

>> brooke: jon, it depends where you are.
Every state provides its own election results certification deadline.
Now, here in south carolina as we reported all of our votes have been counted.
Our deadline is november 11th.
That's next wednesday.
How about those key states, the ones we are really following closely right now.
According to ballotpeda georgia has until twentieth of this month.
Pen until november 23rd.
North carolina twenty-fourth of november.
Get this nevada has until the first of december.
Meaning those election results are unofficial until the date.
Now, i spoke with chris whitmeyer with the south carolina elections commissions just yesterday.
He explained when the polls closed election night it begins the canvassing period.
