Young adults react to Butte County's second young COVID-19 death

Action News spoke to young adults around Chico State about the second young adult death from COVID-19.

Some people are taking it lightly but to others, it's an eye-opener.

Butte county added two covid-19 deaths today.

One of those deaths was a young adult in their 20's who had no underlying health conditions.

Action news now reporter esteban reynoso is live in chico with reaction from that age group.

Esteban, what did they say?

This is the second young adult to succumb to covid-19 in butte county, but the first to die without having pre- existing health conditions.

I spoke to young adults around here at chico state, some people are taking it lightly but to others, it's an eye- opener.

"we've heard a lot of stories of like older people being prone to getting it.

So, i think it's a little bit scarier because even thought we're taking all of these precautions people are still like getting super sick and even without symptoms this person passed away.

So i think it's a little bit more scarier because it kind of hits closer to home because we're closer to thier age."

"it's my first time hearing about someone my age dying with no underlying risk.

So it's kind of weird to hear that mine is the one at risk considering it's always been older people."

"it's a stern reminder as we head into the holidays, this virus can impact anyone no matter what their age is."

Dr. berstein says the best way for people to prevent the spread of covid-19 is wearing your mask, social distancing and avoiding large gatherings.

"i stay home unless i have to go out or go to work or volunteer.

Just do my part to not put myself in those positions."

"people are still not taking this as serious and so they're still going out in big groups and stuff."

Miller strictly follows those guidelines, while for others it makes them rethink their choices in the pandemic.

"yeah i think i'ma keep doing what i'm doing.

I feel like that's no way to live your life just in fear wondering if it's going to be you or your roommate, but i would say it makes me more cautious and makes me just wear my mask more and conscientious of other people and my decisions."

"i don't think fear is the right word.

But respect for this virus, it's definintely out there.

By no means have we rounded the curve.

We are seeing an increase in cases and among the increase in cases we are bernstein told me that looking at the cdc data on covid-19, 65-70 age group is 90 times more at risk to die from covid-19 than someone aged 18-29.
