One age group could send Butte County back to red tier

Butte County is seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases, specifically in people under 24.

If the county remains in this trend, the county could fall back into the red tier, causing re-closures.

Esteban you spoke with butte county public health, why are we seeing this increase?

Butte county public health says this increase in cases is because there are still young people who are not following guidelines.

Butte county is following a national trend of an increase in covid-19 cases.

So far in the month of november, only two days have been without double-digit positive tests.

"right now we're in the orange tier but with these increasing infections there's a chance that we will be turned back up into a higher risk category because behaviors in the community are leading to that change."

Butte county is starting to see an increase in covid-19 cases especially in people under 24.

"what is it that leads to the increases in infections in youth?

In my opinion that they may feel invulnerable, that you know, they're young, that they've listened to the mis and disinformation.

Youth is not protective."

But it's who the youth pass it on to.

According to the cdc, people 65 to 70 years old are 90 times more likely to die from covid-19.

"i've had family and friends that have had covid.

I'm a homecare provider myself, and as someone that is taking care of someone that is highly susceptible."

"it may very well lead to parents, grandparents, uncles, teachers and others getting sick because youthful people are thinking well i'm invulnerable, if i get sick i'm not going to get very sick and i'm not going to die, unlike the one person who did."

"taking necessary precautions, only going out for groceries."

"the value of nonpharmaceutic al interventions is so well- documented that's what folks should be adhering to.

Like i said, it's not either or, we can have economic recovery if we have good health."
