Major rebecca poole/ the salvation army macon "we were looking for ways to do the same type of ministry and service that we provide but with less contact."

The salvation army says there is an increase in families this year with more than a thousand angels to sponsor.

Several local companies adopted groups of angels with each one getting a registry set up just for their employees.

"it is heartwarming to see that the community wants to help as much as they can."

Geico is one of the companies participating this year.

They adopted two hundred angels.

Even with times being tough, geico says the help for their employees is essential.

Frank pickering/ claims assistant vice president geico "middle georgia is our home here and these are our neighbors and it's very important to us to make sure that our neigbors and our coworkers and everybody is taken care of."

But even with those groups adopting angels, there are still many left to adopt.

"it will take a huge effort from the community to help all these angels out there and get them adopted."

((reporter on cam)) "salvation army teamed up with three area walmarts by placing angel trees in the store but if you can't make it to the store you can go to their registry online."

Major poole says even though it's been a challenge so far, she hopes results of the hard work, pays off.

"when you are able to bring those items out and give them to the parents they truly appreciate all the angel tree program begins november 16th at the shoppes at river crossing, but there won't be an in-person event this year.... due to covid.
