Immediately after taking an oath, city council members took action against homelessness.

Mayor Coolidge and Vice Mayor Reynolds were appointed unanimously.

New tonight, the city of chico has a new mayor.

The city council selected unanimously andrew coolidge as the city's new mayor, just moments after he was newly sworn in as a member of the council.

District 6 council member kasey reynolds is new vice mayor.

Esteban you spoke with coolidge, what's the first thing this new council wants to get done.

This new council started to look at ways to get rid of encampments in chico city parks.

The council voted five to two to place camping in a city park as a misdemeanor rather than an infraction.

The new city council got right to work after being sworn in, looking into issues surrounding homelessness.

"what's the first thing you as mayor with this new city council want to pursue?"

"you know i think there are several things and you saw a bit of that tonight.

We are pushing forward different ordinances and different ideas so a study of behavioral health, a look at our park and enforcing the laws within our parks."

After the incoming council members took their oaths, mayor coolidge and vice mayor reynolds were unanimously selected by the new council members in a 7-0 vote.

"that's seven votes so councilmember coolidge will become our mayor for the next two years."

Former mayor ann schwab passed her seat to district three winner council member kami denlay, after schwab held the seat as mayor in march.*nats of cheerin* the public was not allowed inside, still, supporters came here to welcome their new city council members, mayor and vice mayor, and they're hoping for change.

"the day is finally here, we're super excited.

The chamber is still closed but we saw some people are like hey let's go out and show our support as they arrive.

Primarily for me i know these people stood firmly against needles be all over our town.

So my desire is that they ban needles and that it happens tonight."

Next city meeting, the council will discuss where to place the homeless with camping in city parks now a misdemeanor.
