Head of Infection Control confirms around 40 Covid-19 cases within staff at Oroville Hospital

Action News Now has confirmed a spike in coronavirus cases within the staff at the Oroville Hospital.

Hospital have tested postive for the coronavirus.

Action news now reporter kristian lopez is live near the hospital.

Kristian you spoke with the head infection control about this.

What is he saying?

Dr. roy shannon says the spike is not surprising especially because its happening all over the country right now.

Dr. shannon says about 40 hospital employees have tested positive.

He says after investigating - it seems most of them were infected outside of work.

They began to see a spike the same time cases started surging around the country a couple of weeks ago.

Action news now spoke with one employee who didn't want to be identified.

She says she is upset about the way the hospital is handling the situation.

Different answers, from different people, it seems like they are just trying to calm us.

I just hope they can be more truthful and transparent and have an honest conversation with their employees treating us like we are a member of their team.

I don't think our supervisors give mixed messages.

I have full confidence in all of our supervisors and administration.

If a person has a true concern, they should come to me, they should come to our administrator, director of nurses and make this concern known the employee tells us she may have been exposed and hasn't been able to get tested because of a shortage of test kits.

Dr. shannon says they have to look at each situation individually because of the limited amount of tests they have.

He also tells me even with some 40 employees outà they are still covering all shifts by having people work overtime.

He adds this is the biggest surge within the staff they've seen so far.
